So I’ve been a bit MIA recently and I apologise, but I had the craziest few days ever! Last week Skye and I got surprised by his mum and her friend Sally for a few days here in Hua Hin. We had no idea they were coming to visit and they’d booked us all 2 nights in Anantara Hua Hin Resort. It’s an absolutely gorgeous 5* hotel on the beach and the rooms were unreal!
So we had such a nice time living in paradise for a few days!
Then last Sunday we took the three hour bus up to Bangkok and then about an hour plane to Chiang Mai to stay with Skye’s mum. We got there quite late Sunday night so we went straight to bed and then got up the next morning to go to the Grand Canyon Water Park.
It was unreal, there was a massive inflatable obstacle course in the middle of a canyon which was crazy. It was a lot of fun though, the next day we were a bit burnt and quite sore but it was so worth it! There was also the chance to do wake boarding and a zip line. Definitely worth it if you’re in Chiang Mai! And it was only about 450 baht I think, so about £11/12 for a full day!
The next day we got up early to drive to Maerim Elephant Sanctuary! When we arrived we spent ages just feeding one of the elephants loads of bananas. Then we had to get changed into our mahout outfits, blue clothes so that the elephants could see us better.
Then we watched a video all about the elephants and where they came from. There were 3 females and one baby male elephant. There was Bun Lai (blessing), Duang Chan (moon), Champu (rose apple) and Set Thi (rich boy). Set Thi and his mum Champu were rescued from a circus and the rest were all rescued from riding camps. They have the best life here with no chains and no bull hooks, they’re free to roam wherever they wish.
We got to go in with the elephants and feed them so many bananas and then got a little tuk tuk to a banana farm but they’re out of season here in Thailand because it’s dry season so we chopped down some of the trees instead.
Then we went back for lunch and made our own noodles and soup which was really nice! We then went and fed the elephants our tree trunks and went on a short trek with them to feed them some corn.
Then we came to my favourite bit. We gave them a mud bath! It felt so gross in-between your toes but the elephants loved us smothering them in mud. We got covered in it too because apparently it’s good for your skin. Then we went into another pool with them and washed all the mud off us.
It was one of my favourite days ever and I’d love to do it again one day! So if you ever find yourself in Chiang Mai, definitely make a trip to Maerim Elephant Sanctuary!
Then we headed to the cinema to watch Ready Player One which was actually a pretty good film. But we did it in VIP style. So we sat on a leather sofa that reclined all the way back. You get a complimentary blanket for the cold cinema and you order your popcorn and drinks to be delivered to you! It was crazy! And it only cost about £11/12 too.
Unfortunately the day after we were going home so in the morning we had a Thai massage and then packed up and headed back home.
I also filmed a lot over these past few days so if you’d like to see our fun adventure at the water park or us smearing mud all over some elephants, check out my new YouTube video here!
I had the most amazing few days adventure, and I can’t wait to be able to do it again!
I hope you like this blog and my video, comment below your elephant experience or if it’s on your dream bucket list!
